Indian series ‘Tandav’ announces changes amid backlash by BJP

New  Delhi, 20th January: Indian series ‘Tandav’ on Amazon Prime starring Saif Ali Khan and Dimple Kapadia has been receiving a backlash from members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Baaghi TV: Right after the show got aired on the online streaming channel, a controversy was followed by police complaint which has led to an apology by the show maker.

According to reports, now some changes are also being made to the Indian web series ‘Tandav’.

In a recent update, filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar shared that changes are being implemented to his show.

“The cast and crew of Tandav have made the decision to implement the changes to the web series to address the concerns raised towards the same. We thank the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for the guidance & support in the matter. We once again apologise if the series has unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments.”

According to the reports from The Indian Express, Zafar made the announcement after two meetings with the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, both attended by Zafar.

As per the publication, the makers of the political series, along with representatives of Amazon Prime, had been called for the second video-conference meeting by the ministry to explain their stand on Monday.

Earlier on 18th January, Zafar had shared the update regarding his show, “We just want to share a quick update with everybody. We are in further engagement with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to resolve the concerns that have been raised. We value your continued patience and support and should have a solution shortly.”

According to reports, it is still not specified what changes are being made to ‘Tandav’, however, reportedly, Hindu nationalist politicians had objected to a scene depicting the Hindu God Shiva in a play.

The character of the Hindu God was played by a Muslim actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and it is quite a possibility that the scene will be altered.

On the other hand, reports are surfacing that another Amazon Prime show by the name of ‘Mirzapur’ has offended some Indians now.

According to reports fro the Hindustan Times, an FIR has been filed against the makers of ‘Mirzapur’ for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, showing abusive content and illicit relations and tarnishing the image of the town in Uttar Pradesh.

Mirzapur is an action-crime thriller, revolving around drugs, murders, guns and lawlessness. It showcases mafia dons, local rivalry and crime prevailing in UP. Its first season was released in 2018 and the second season in 2020.
