TEHRAN — October 13, 2025: Iran has officially announced that it will not participate in the Gaza peace summit being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, citing deep reservations over sharing the table with nations it accuses of threatening and sanctioning its people.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that while Tehran had received an invitation to attend, both the Iranian President and he personally declined the offer. “Iran cannot sit at the same table with countries that have attacked and threatened its people,” Araqchi said, emphasizing that meaningful dialogue is impossible under such circumstances.

He further clarified that Iran’s decision does not signal opposition to the peace process in Gaza. “Iran supports every effort aimed at ending Israeli aggression and ensuring the withdrawal of occupying forces,” he said. The foreign minister added that Iran remains “an effective and decisive force for the establishment of peace in the region” and will continue to play its role in safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit, hosted jointly by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, aims to formalize a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas following weeks of conflict.
Iran’s absence from the high-profile meeting is seen by observers as a sign of Tehran’s ongoing mistrust of Western powers and its insistence on maintaining an independent diplomatic stance on Middle Eastern affairs.
