Tuesday, July 14th: The Islamic Republic of Iran has excluded India from the Chabahar rail project due to delay in funding.

According to Indian media, the Iranian government decided to build the railway on its own. The agreement was reached between India and Iran four years ago. Under the agreement, a railway line was to be built from Chabahar to Zahedan. The 1.6 billion railway project is expected to be completed by March 2022.

Four years ago, in May 2016, a tripartite agreement was signed between Iran, India and Afghanistan for the construction of a railway line from the Iranian port of Chabahar to Zahedan. This trade route connects the port of Kandhla in the western Indian state of Gujarat with the Iranian port of Chabahar. Iranian Transport Minister Mohammad Islami officially inaugurated the project last week. According to Iranian officials, the 628-kilometer railway line will run from Chabahar port to Zahedan in Iran and from there to Zaranj in Afghanistan’s Nimroz province.

According to International media, Iran has taken this step after finalizing a 400 billion 25-year economic and security agreement with China.
