Isaac Herzog elected as Israel's new president

Lahore, 2nd June: Isaac Herzog has been elected as the 11th President of Israel after winning the elections on Wednesday.

According to reports, Isaac Herzog is the chairman of the Jewish Agency and former head of the Labor Party. Herzog is also the son of Israel’s sixth president Chaim Herzog.

Herzog will now be replacing President Reuven Rivlin next month.

As per reports, in the secret Knesset ballot among the country’s 120 lawmakers, Herzog took the majority of votes and won by 87 votes.

While 27 votes were cast to his only contender, Miriam Peretz, an Israel Prize winner.

Herzog will officially replace the outgoing President Reuven Rivlin, who had served his seven-year term and will now step down on July 9.
