ISPR: Group of Afghan soldiers amicably returned

July 27, 2021: The ISPR said in a statement that a group of Afghan soldiers who had sought refuge in Pakistan after losing control of a military outpost on the Pakistani border had been repatriated in a dignified manner.

“Forty-six Afghan soldiers, including five officers, have returned to the Afghan authorities today (Tuesday) for the quarter,” Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said late Monday.

At the request of the Pakistan Army in the Arundo sector of the Pak-Afghan International Border in Chitral on July 25, Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and Border Police were given safe passage into Pakistan.

The local ANA commander had requested the Pakistan Army to provide shelter and safe passage for the troops. The army’s media wing said that after the necessary approvals, Afghan troops entered Pakistan with their weapons, ammunition and communications equipment.

“The soldiers have now been amicably returned to the Afghan authorities at their request, including weapons and equipment,” the ISPR said.

Earlier, the ISPR said that Afghan troops were provided with food, shelter and necessary medical care in accordance with established military principles.

During the fighting in recent weeks, 300,000 strong Afghan security forces have lost several districts to Taliban operations, and security forces often surrender without a fight. The Taliban have crossed most of the country’s international border.

Earlier, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that the first task of the Afghan security forces was to ensure that they could slow down the Taliban before attempting to retake the area, as the Afghan forces are located in strategically important parts of the country. Intends to strengthen the surrounding forces.
