Jane Powell, star of Golden Age musicals, dies at 92

Theatre actress Jane Powell, famous for starring in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musicals in the 1940s, the Hollywood Golden Age of musicals, has passed away at 92.

According to her friend Susan Granger, Jane Powell passed away on Thursday at her home in Wilton Connecticut.

A superstar in the world of musicals, the actress had many hits, including “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” in which she acted alongside Howard Keel, and “Royal Wedding,” opposite Fred Astaire.

She was born in 1929 in Portland, Oregon, and showed great talent for the performing arts – acting, singing, and dancing – from an early age.

Powell was married 5 times and passed away naturally at the home which she shared with her 5th husband, the late actor Dick Moore.

The actress befriended Susan Granger after they met on the set of the 40’s musical-comedy “Song of the Open Road”, directed by Granger’s father.

“Jane was a loyal, lifelong friend. She’s was delightfully droll and candid. You never asked Jane a question you didn’t want answered with total honesty,” Granger said.

She had three children and two grandchildren and lives on through them.
