Japanese firm, universities team up for quick COVID-19 test

Japanese pharmaceutical firm Shionogi & Co. has signed a licensing agreement with three Japanese universities to commercialize an inexpensive test for a new rapid diagnostic method for coronavirus.

According to the details, three Japanese universities include Nihon University, Gunma University and Tokyo Medical University.

The method, known as ‘Signal Amplification by Ternary Initiation Complexes’ (SATIC), involves heating a sample of saliva and adding it to a reagent that changes color to indicate the presence of viruses, according to a news release by the company on Monday.

However, now a group of researchers in Japan claims that the new testing technique will give COVID-19 results in just 25 minutes.
