Judge who sentenced Nawaz Sharif, succumbs to COVID-19

According to Baaghi TV reports, accountability court judge Arshad Malik died due to corona.

Judge Arshad Malik, who delivered the verdict in the Nawaz Sharif case, passed away due to Karuna. According to family sources, former judge Arshad Malik had been on a ventilator for a week and died at a private hospital in Rawalpindi. Funeral prayers of Arshad Malik will be offered in his native village Mandira Gujjar Khan.
Judge Arshad Malik had in December 2018 sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison in the Azizia Steel Mill case. Following the verdict, Maryam Nawaz released an alleged video in which he was heard saying that he was under pressure to convict former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Azizia Steel Mills case. Following the case, Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court Athar Minallah had barred Arshad Malik from acting as a judge of the accountability court due to his misconduct and ordered him to report to the Lahore High Court. Arshad Malik was posted on deputation in Islamabad and was subordinate to the Lahore High Court.

In the judge video case, Arshad Malik had on October 3rd challenged the dismissal in the Punjab Subordinate Judiciary Service Tribunal. The petition challenged the decision of the management committee of the Lahore High Court. On the recommendations of the report of the management committee, Judge Arshad Malik was dismissed. Judge Arshad Malik, in his petition, requested that the verdict be reconsidered as Miss Conduct had not been committed.
It should be noted that PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz had released a video of Judge Arshad Malik after which the services of the accountability court judge were again handed over to the Lahore High Court. Judge Arshad Malik, in his affidavit, termed the video as fake and said, “I was threatened and blackmailed.”
Former Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik has been made OSD by the Lahore High Court. The notification to create OSD has been issued, the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court has given approval to Judge Arshad Malik to create OSD. Following the order of the Supreme Court, the services of Judge Arshad Malik were transferred from the Accountability Court to the Lahore High Court, after which Judge Arshad Malik was dismissed.
