Karachi IBA University closed after COVID-19 detected

Karachi, 17th September: Karachi’s Institute of Business Administration (IBA) University has been closed down after the detection of a COVID-19 patient.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, Karachi’s IBA University is closed for two days after the emergence of a COVID-19 case.

Only two days after educational institutions were reopened across the country after six months, a case of COVID-19 emerged in Karachi’s famous university. The affected student has been isolated in the hostel.

Karachi University and city campus located in Garden’s locality will remain closed for two days. All the activities for the mentioned period will be suspended while students and teachers would not be allowed to enter the premises of both the campuses.

However, the spokesperson of IBA said that non-teaching faculty members would continue their duties as per routine.

Sources told The Express Tribune that the first case emerged in the hostel of the IBA’s Karachi University campus. The affected student had recently joined the university from Islamabad and had been taking classes along with other students.

Both the campuses will be disinfected to stop the spread of the contagious disease. According to sources, it is reported that the university was not following the proper SOPs required during the ongoing pandemic.

Reportedly, canteen and cafeteria have also been opened where a large number of students gather. Many students and teachers were seen roaming without wearing face masks.

It is said that the air-conditioning of the campus was not working properly, and because of heat and humidity, students were not wearing masks.

As per reports from the Express Tribune, IBA spokesperson Haris Siddiqui, when contacted, did not confirm the closure.

He also did not verify the number of cases that have emerged from both the campuses. “With the assistance of district administration, we have managed to conduct hundreds of COVID tests and the results were being awaited,” he added.

He further said the student, whose COVID-19 test came out positive, has been isolated in the hostel.

Earlier, it is reported by Baaghi TV, that 22 educational institutes have been closed down across the country for not following the proper SOPs provided by the government for the safety of students and faculty members.
