Key Updates:

  • Religious Party Protest | Section 144 Imposed | Security Alert

LAHORE – October 10, 2025: The city remained on edge Thursday and Friday as violent clashes between police and Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) workers intensified ahead of the group’s planned “Gaza March” toward Islamabad. The unrest, which began overnight on Multan Road, has now spread to multiple parts of Lahore, prompting a citywide security lockdown.

Shelling was reported at Scheme Mor, where a large number of TLP workers gathered outside the group’s central headquarters, chanting slogans and staging protests. According to local sources, fresh clashes erupted between Punjab Police and worshippers near Jamia Masjid Rahmat-ul-Lil-Alameen during Friday prayers, leaving dozens injured.

Authorities have imposed Section 144 across Lahore, banning large public gatherings, while the Lahore Metro service has been suspended. All schools and several universities have been closed as a precautionary measure amid escalating tensions. Commuters and students continue to face severe travel disruptions due to extensive road blockages on major routes, including Multan Road, Chauburji, and Yateem Khana Chowk.

The confrontation first erupted after TLP’s call for a march to Islamabad to stage a protest outside the US Embassy in solidarity with Palestinians. In anticipation, authorities sealed off TLP’s headquarters using shipping containers and blocked major entry and exit points to prevent the rally.

Security was also reinforced in Islamabad, where containers were placed at city entrances and more than 100 TLP supporters were detained ahead of the planned demonstration.

By Thursday afternoon, TLP activists reportedly vandalized shops and vehicles, prompting police retaliation with tear gas and baton charges. The party claimed two of its members were killed and around 50 injured, while police confirmed one death and said at least seven protesters and 12 officers were wounded.

Following the violence, TLP issued a “final call” for supporters to gather in Lahore on Friday, resulting in a surge of protesters converging on Multan Road and nearby areas. Police and Rangers have been deployed in large numbers to contain the situation.

Police have registered multiple cases under anti-terrorism laws against hundreds of TLP activists, including party chief Saad Rizvi and senior leadership, for inciting violence and disturbing public order.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry condemned the unrest, accusing the TLP of “spreading anarchy under the guise of Gaza solidarity.” Speaking outside Parliament House, he alleged that many detained individuals were armed with batons, tear gas shells, and firearms.

Chaudhry described the organization as a “mercenary-like group” exploiting religion for political purposes and spreading misinformation about casualties on social media to provoke public anger.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay indoors and avoid protest zones as police and paramilitary forces continue to patrol sensitive areas across Lahore and surrounding districts.
