Lahore’s Old Airport Made Functional for Foreigners

Lahore: Emergency arrangements have been made by booking rooms in five-star hotels for the influx of foreigners evacuating from Afghanistan, due to which, Lahore’s old airport has also been made functional again.

According to the details, arrangements have finished in Lahore. Due to an influx of foreigners in the federal capital Islamabad, the old Lahore airport has been made to run once again, the runway of which will be used for transit flights from Afghanistan. For this purpose, the lounge has been made active, and immigration and customs counters have also been installed.

It has been reported that the district administration has also directed the city’s medium-sized hotels and guest houses to keep empty rooms in case of an emergency, for which they will be informed about 24 hours in advance, for arrangements for Afghan citizens and foreigners.

In addition, there have been reports that the government has decided to accommodate Afghan refugees in the hostels of three universities in Lahore, namely the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Government College University (GCU), and the University of Health Sciences Kala Shakaku Campus.

The administration of universities has also been informed that 20,000 Afghan refugees must be accommodated. However, students, teachers, and employees studying in universities have refused to vacate the campus premises and declared protests, stating that Afghan refugees in the university will spoil the educational environment. The authorities should arrange for another place for them, they said.
