Lahore, 26th May: Pakistan’s late PML-N Senator Mushahidullah Khan won a defamation suit in the United Kingdom against a private TV channel.

According to reports, Senator Mushahidullah Khan, who passed away on February 18, 2021, won a defamation case against a private TV channel in the UK.

The defamation case was filed against a program in which the analyst of the private TV channel made false allegations against the PML-N’s late Senator.

The analyst had alleged that Mr. Mushahidullah Khan had used Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) money to stay in London and get his treatment.

Reports say that a news program was aired on a private channel in the UK on June 24, 2020, regarding the findings of a report on the PIA plane crash that happened in Karachi in May 2020.

The analyst from the TV channel claimed that Mushahidullah Khan got treated and stayed at a hotel in London at the expense of PIA.

The Senator challenged the private channel to provide evidence for the channel’s false claims and prove him guilty. He added that he was ready to face any penalty if claims against him proved true or any evidence or witness showed up.

Mushahidullah had complained to Ofcom, the UK government-approved regulatory authority, that he was not treated fairly in the program.

He also claimed that the anchor was pro-government and defamed Khan to support his favorite party and had no evidence to back up his derogatory allegations.

TV anchor said that ‘people should know the fact how PIA was operated during the rule of the PML-N government’.

He also claimed that ‘Senator Mushahidullah was treated in London at PIA’s expense. He stayed in a PIA hotel in London and all these things are there for everyone to see.’

Mr. Khan filed his complaint to Ofcom saying that the anchor’s allegations suggested that the fault with PIA’s operation was because of people like him that had been cheating the airline and were responsible for its current downfall.

Mushahidullah refuted the claims saying that he had never received or used state money or funds.

In its defense, the TV channel said that the program was broadcasted after a press conference from the Federal Minister of Aviation, where he pointed out the issues including the fake licenses’ issued to pilots and arbitrary appointments within PIA by previous government representatives.

The TV channel also presented the corruption allegations published against Mushahidullah on websites, but Ofcom rejected them saying that there was no proof to back up the claims.
