Law Minister Barrister Farogh Naseem has backed the removal of Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) from the list of banned organizations.

Talking to the media outlets, the Law Minister said,

“The Ministry had approved the recommendations of the Punjab government and also supported lifting the ban. TLP issue now needs to be reviewed by the Home Ministry.”

Earlier, the Federal Ministry of Home Affairs sent a letter from the Punjab government to the Law Ministry on the issue of removing the TLP from the banned list and lifting the sanctions.

Interior Ministry sources said that the ministry has been recommended to put a letter in the federal cabinet meeting regarding lifting the ban and removing the name ban. According to sources, after the Punjab government, approval will also be sought from the federal cabinet. The letter will be placed in the next meeting of the federal cabinet or approval will be sought from the cabinet through circulation.

It may be recalled that the banned outfit had recently staged a protest demanding release of its jailed leader and lifting of the ban on the outfit.

Later, a round of talks between the federal government and members of the banned organization began, which was successful, and then the protesters moved from the road to a nearby park.
