LHC slaps ban on use of plastic bags at pharmacies and fruit vendors

LAHORE, AUGUST 08 (ONLINE): Ban has been imposed by Lahore High Court (LHC) on use of plastic bags at pharmacies, medical stores and fruit vendors.

According to media reports, the LHC single bench led by Justice Shahid Karim took up for hearing a petition filed by advocate  Abuzar Salman Khan Niazi seeking ban on use of plastic bags.

The court ordered DG of Department of Environmental Protection to issue directives to regional offices to implement the ban in districts Gujranwala, Sialkot and Faisalabad.

The court remarked two weeks time is given to all stores to switch to alternatives of the  plastic bags.

The hearing of the case was adjourned  till September 9.
