Lufthansa to resume flight operations in Pakistan after 13 years

German Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Bernhard Stephen Schlagheck called on Board of Investment (BOI) Secretary Fareena Mazhar on September 8, 2021 in Islamabad.

According to details, the German national airline, Lufthansa is considering to resume weekly flight operations in Pakistan after thirteen years, an envoy said on Wednesday.

The German Ambassador to Pakistan Bernhard Schlagheck also announced that a delegation of businessmen will visit Pakistan next week to explore investment opportunities in the country. In a meeting with BOI Secretary, he said that Lufthansa airline executives will also be a part of the delegation.

Furthermore, he said that the business delegation will be visiting Islamabad and Karachi to interact with investors from the prviate sector as well as high level government officials.

Fareena Mazhar added that top-level meetings with Siemens Chief Financial Officer (CFO) aimed at discussing its future plans to expand its footprint in Pakistan. Highlighting the opportunities in Pakistan, she said that the government was prioritising regulatory reforms and investor facilitation is being paid special attention.

Mazhar commended the ambassador of the ten-year tax exemption introduced in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and the landmark one-window operation to be launched by the end of November 2021.

Lufthansa, the German Airline and a member of the Star Alliance Network relaunched operations in Pakistan in 2007 after it rolled back its operations from the country in 1998. In October 2008, the German flag carrier announced ending all its flight operations in Karachi and Lahore for unspecified commercial reasons.
