Lahore, 5th  March: PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz said that the chief of the Army and ISI should not have met prime minister Imran Khan after PTI’s defeat in Senate elections.

Baaghi TV: Maryam Nawaz said on Friday that the military leadership should not have been seen with Prime Minister Imran Khan a day after the ruling PTI suffered in the recent Senate elections.

While addressing a media briefing in Islamabad, Maryam Nawaz accused the prime minister of dragging the institutions into politics despite the military repeatedly asking politicians not to do so.

According to reports, Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had met Imran Khan at Prime Minister House on Thursday, a day after the Senate polls took place. It was also reported that the Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Faiz Hameed was also present during the meeting.

As per sources, no statement on the meeting was released by the Prime Minister’s Office, which normally gives out press releases on such interactions.

However, the opposition and the public was quick to link the meeting of the military leadership to the PM after the upset suffered in the Senate elections.

Following the shock defeat, Prime Minister Imran Khan has been forced to seek a vote of confidence from the National Assembly.

Maryam Nawaz alleged that the premier had called and met the heads of institutions in the PM House ‘on the day he suffered a humiliating defeat and his members expressed a lack of confidence in him and voted against him.’

She said, “Is he not dragging the institutions into politics?”

Maryam Nawaz pointed out that previously DG ISI had urged politicians not to drag the military into political matters.
