LAHORE – October 10, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that children from low-income families will receive free education and therapy at the Maryam Nawaz Autism School and Research Center, a pioneering initiative in the province designed to support children with special needs.

Chairing a high-level meeting on special education, the Chief Minister lauded Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Sania Ashiq and her team for their exceptional efforts in developing a modern, research-based framework for the center.

The meeting approved key initiatives, including the provision of 48 new buses for special education centers across Punjab, the formation of a 13-member Board of Governors, and the three-year strategic plan for the Autism Resource Center.

Briefing the session, Sania Ashiq said the Autism School will follow an evidence-based curriculum model aligned with international best practices and tailored for Pakistani students. The facility will feature open gyms, sensory gardens, sound therapy centers, and walking tracks, ensuring a holistic environment for children aged 3 to 16 years.

The school’s programs will integrate educational and therapeutic support, including photo and written therapies in both Urdu and English, while specialized coaching modules for parents will help strengthen coordination between home and school.

To ensure safety and quality, CCTV monitoring systems will be installed, and child welfare officers will oversee day-to-day operations. The Research and Teacher Training Division will prepare master trainers and introduce diploma and certification programs for teachers to advance autism education and therapy standards in Pakistan.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the Autism School reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive education, child welfare, and modern rehabilitation. “This initiative will help thousands of children unlock their potential and integrate confidently into society,” she added.
