Maryam Nawaz, PML-N vice president and daughter of former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, has reportedly left in a convoy to attend the protest of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) today.
Caravans from different areas including Lahore are reaching PDM’s meeting place, Jinnah Stadium Gujranwala. All roads leading from Azadi Chowk to Shahdara turn were blocked by containers to stop the participants of the PDM meeting due to which the people have faced severe hardships.
Before the arrival of PML-N leader, Maryam Nawaz, all the roads leading to Lahore-Gujranwala GT road were closed to all kinds of traffic. The road leading to Ring Road Airport was also completely sealed. Citizens have faced severe hardships. PML-N workers are gathering at Shahdara turn to welcome Maryam Nawaz.
A 28-point agreement has been reached between the PDM leadership and the district administration. According to the notification, the government has given conditional permission to the PDM to hold a rally at Jinnah Stadium. On the day of the meeting, containers have been placed at the entrances of the city for the security of the participants. Only pedestrians will be allowed to enter the area.
CPO Gujranwala, Sarfraz Falaki said that corner meetings and public gatherings would not be allowed without NOC from the administration. He said that implementation of Corona SOPs would be ensured in all cases. Strict action will be taken against those who break the law. In Gujranwala, 7 cases have also been registered for violation of unauthorized corner meetings and Corona SOPs.
The PDM protest is set for 5 pm to 12 am. In which Corona SOPs have to be taken into consideration. According to the agreement, no PDM leader will speak outside the stadium. PDM will not close the GT road. No speech will be made against national security agencies and the constitution. Cases will be registered against the meeting management for violating the agreement.
