Match Report: Pakistan beats Zimbabwe in the first ODI

In the first match of the three-match one day international (ODI) series, Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by 26 runs at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday (today).

According to the details, Pakistan had given Zimbabwe a target of 282 runs to win, in reply to which Zimbabwe were bowled out for 255 runs. This is Pakistan’s seventh consecutive victory in ODIs.

At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bat first.

Pakistan’s innings

For Pakistan, Imam-ul-Haq and Abid Ali started the innings and the first wicket partnership between the two players was 47 runs when Abid Ali became LBW. National team captain Babar Azam was also caught behind the wickets for 19 runs while Imam-ul-Haq was run out for 58 runs.

Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed were also guests for 14 and 12 runs respectively while Haris Sohail played an innings of 71 runs with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Babar Azam is leading the Pakistan cricket team for the first time in ODIs while national team vice-captain Shadab Khan could not participate in the first match due to injury.

Faheem Ashraf and Emad Wasim played lightning fast innings in the last overs and both the players added 23 and 34 runs respectively which helped Pakistan to score 281 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.

Haris Rauf made his ODI debut for Pakistan.

Zimbabwe’s innings

Zimbabwe played well in pursuit of the target, but failed to perform in the last few overs. For Zimbabwe, Creek Irwin (41), Brendon Taylor (112) and Wesley Madhivera (55) played brilliant innings.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi took five wickets and Wahab Riaz four, while Emad Wasim took one wicket. Pakistan has taken a 1-0 lead in the series in three matches while the second match of the series will be played on November 1.
