Meesha Shafi, Iffat Omar slam Hum Style Awards for celebrating harassers #Baaghi

Lahore, 6th July: The 5th Hum Style Awards was held Sunday night which marked Ali Zafar’s return to hosting after five years following a long legal battle with Meesha Shafi over claims of harassment.

According to details, the award function honored stars across the country, including singer Meesha Shafi, but she was the one who wasn’t too happy with them.

Taking to her Twitter handle a day ago, Meesha Shafi condemned the awards and management for giving space to alleged harassers and letting them host the show.

Since Shafi’s Twitter account is restricted to the users, her sarcastic tweet goes as, “One sec ….. you celebrate/award/defend and support harassers, this is old news. So no surprises. But shouldn’t ‘style’ awards at least try to find someone with style to host their show?”

Then she announces she is in no need of any kind of approval from the channel. Hence, she made it clear that she wouldn’t be acknowledging any recognition or accept any awards from organizations that are involved with the harasser.

She added, “And HUM Style Awards, please stop nominating me. I don’t need validation from enablers.”

Not only her but TV actress and host Iffat Omar, artist Maheen Ghani and PTI Minister Shireen Mazari’s daughter Imaan Zainab Mazari from Shafi’s feminist brigade also pointed fingers at superstar Ali Zafar hosting the show.

On July 5, Imaan Zainab Mazari wrote on her Twitter account, “Can the outrage over Alizeh Shah’s outfit at the Hum Style Awards be directed instead at Hum Management for giving their stage to a harasser? So many spineless celebrities who chose to attend an event hosted by a harasser perhaps need to get priorities in order?”

Iffat Omar retweets Meesha Shafi’s and Imaan’s messages and takes on the agenda to target singer-actor Ali Zafar.

Then makeup artist Maheen Ghani also took to her Twitter handle yesterday and wrote, “Only in Pakistan will a harasser be awarded and put on a stage show. Appalling. I can’t imagine Kevin Spacey or Weinstein hosting anything. And that’s how you become enablers and rape apologists.”

Iffat Omar retweeted the above message as well. These women together are pointing fingers not only at Ali Zafar but calling out the whole system as being unethical.

However, the harassment accusations against superstar Ali Zafar are yet to be proven, hence such statements seem more like attention-seeking stunts.

If there was any truth in these allegations then the court would have apprehended Ali Zafar already!
