Lahore, 22nd September: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has allowed schools across the country to resume in-person classes for grades six to eight starting tomorrow, 23rd September.

Following this order schools in Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber PakhtunKhwa have opened but the education minister of Sindh, Saeed Ghani said that schools would reopen on the 28th of September due to the prevailing situation.

It was after 6 months that universities, colleges, vocational training centers, and classes 9 to 12 were reopened. And due to their successful opening classes, grades six to eight have also been allowed to open from 23rd September.

However, due to the detection of coronavirus cases in some schools, they were told to shut down, similarly, the schools that were not following proper SOP’s were also forced to close till further notice.

Second phase reopening of schools postponed

Education minister, Saeed Ghani said that due to many coronavirus cases being reported recently and schools not following SOP’s carefully, Sindh will see a week-long delay in the reopening of schools.

In a meeting today, the NCOC green-lighted the second phase of the reopening of schools from tomorrow as scheduled.

Shafqat Mehmood reassured the public that he had been keeping an eye on the coronavirus cases ever since schools had opened and he was also keeping a check on whether they are following the SOP’s properly or not.

He exclaimed that many schools were asked to close due to the sole reason that they had not been following the SOP’s properly, not because coronavirus cases were found amongst the students and staff.

“Let me say that several schools were closed down for not following SOPs. It was being perceived incorrectly that this was done due to an increase in the number of cases. This was done only because they didn’t follow the guidelines.”

He also added that he would have preferred that the decision of reopening schools was unified, but Sindh still needed more time to see if they were ready or not.

“It is imperative for everyone to follow SOPs issued by the school education department,” said Murad Raas on the reopening of schools.
