Mineral water or poisonous water? 22 companies selling non potable water in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Mineral water or poisonous water? How more than 22 companies of the country are colluding with the nation? Questions raised as PCRWR conducts research on Pakistan’s mineral water companies.

According to reports, the Water Resources Research Council (PCRWR) has warned that the water being sold by the multinational companies in Pakistan is not potable. Water of 22 brand companies has raised questions on its poor quality.

180 samples from different brands were obtained from different cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Karachi, Tando Jam, Badin, Quetta, Loralai, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Mianwali, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit.

The results of these samples were compiled by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and a report was formed. According to reports, the samples collected from different companies showed that the 22 companies were selling water unsafe for human life.

According to the standards of the controlling authority, the amount of arsenic in drinking water should be 10 micrograms per liter.

The Water Resources Research Council (PCRWR) report states that the amount of sodium in water should be 50 mg per liter. The amount of TDS in a liter bottle of water should be 500 mg.

The list, released by the Water Resources Research Council (PCRWR), states that there are 15 brands, including the multinational company, which are Pure, Hunza, Hydride, Blue Plus, Sunley, Aqua King, Spring. Fresh Life, UFP Edge, Doro, Dropes, Puri Kana, Drops, Best Natural, Alberka Water and Coyo have been declared unsafe due to sodium levels of 60 to 165 mg per liter.
