In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in the firing by Indian troops during the ongoing protests in Ladakh region.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the uprising in Ladakh is a direct consequence of New Delhi’s unilateral and unconstitutional decision of August 5, 2019, when Jammu and Kashmir was dismembered and downgraded into Union Territories against the wishes of its people.

“The aftershocks of the unilateral decision of dismemberment and downgrading of J&K, and the unkept promises made to its people, are bearing these unfortunate consequences,” the Hurriyat leader said.

He added that the promises made to the people of Ladakh must be honoured without delay to save lives and restore peace.

Meanwhile, the authorities placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under strict house arrest today, with barbed wire barricades erected on all lanes leading to his residence in Srinagar. The move came ahead of a scheduled meeting of the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) that was to be held at his residence, where heads of leading religious organizations were expected to deliberate on concerns arising from the interim Supreme Court judgment on the Waqf, as well as pressing social and religious issues.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader and President of Anjuman Sharie Shian Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi A Safvi in a statement in Srinagar strongly condemned the brutal repression unleashed by the administration against the people of Ladakh.

He said the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir stand in solidarity with Ladakh, advocating for democratic rights and constitutional assurances.

He called upon the New Delhi to respect the democratic aspirations of the people, immediately engage with people of Ladakh, and ensure their demand and rights are honoured and restored without further delay.
