ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Health (MoH) has clarified the increase in the prices of medicines. According to reports, the Ministry of National Health has issued an important explanation regarding the increase in the prices of medicines.

According to a report by Radio Pakistan, the Ministry of National Health has said that the government has not approved any increase in the prices of essential medicines.

A spokesman for the health ministry said rumors were circulating in the media that the government had also approved a 10 per cent increase in the prices of essential medicines.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health said that the increase in drug prices was in light of the policy formulated in 2018, which allows a pharmaceutical company to increase prices by 7 to 10 per cent per annum without government intervention. ۔

“The federal government had formulated the Drug Prices Policy 2018 in the context of the Drug Act 1976 to remove legal barriers, which is being implemented,” he said.

It may be recalled that a day ago, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) allowed pharmaceutical companies to increase the prices of medicines by 7 to 10, after which medicines became more expensive across the country.

Following the amendment to the Drug Pricing Policy 2018, DRAP allowed pharmaceutical companies to raise prices and also issued notifications. It said pharmaceutical companies were allowed to raise prices by 7 to 10 per cent under the Consumer Price Index.
