More than fifty rape cases reported across Punjab during first half of the year

In the first five months of the year, over fifty rape cases have been reported in Punjab. Following this, a motion has been filed in the Punjab Assembly against the increase in crime rate in the province. 

According to reports, the adjournment motion was filed by PML-N member Punjab Assembly Rabia Farooqi in which it was said that the crime rate in urban areas of Punjab province including Lahore has increased dramatically.

According to the police department, the number of serious crimes has increased by 25 percent this year, with robberies and burglary cases being higher.

In the first four months of 2021, 6,525 cases of a serious nature were registered meanwhile 7,634 cases were registered during the first four months of this year.

Similarly, 1,232 murders were committed in 4 months of 2021, while 1,214 people were killed last year,. 151 indiscriminate murders in six months of this year, and 136 incidents in the same period of 2020.

Additionally, Lahore ranks first among other cities in robbery resistance killings where 10 civilians were killed. Last year, four people were killed in Lahore during the first four months of the year for resisting robbery. This year 6,158 incidents of robbery and robbery were recorded while last year 5,120 incidents were recorded. Similarly, 57 incidents of gang rape were recorded in 4 months of this year while 56 incidents were recorded in 2020.
