According to the reports of Baaghi TV, an appeal against the decision to ban coverage of PEMRA’s motorway abuse case was heard in the Lahore High Court.

The Lahore High Court has reportedly suspended notification of ban on reporting of the motorway abuse case. Two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qasim Khan ordered the suspension of PEMRA’s notification.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan remarked that the media can report on the proceedings of the case. Under the Right to Information, the public cannot be prevented from awareness. The media will not run pictures of the family of either the accused or the victims. The Court further asked to present the record of the press conference of the ministers and advisers to the media regarding the arrest of the accused Abid Ali Malhi.

The court asked why the speeches of ministers and advisers were aired when PEMRA had imposed the ban. Chief Justice, Qasim Khan stated, “Gone are the days when the sins of the government were forgiven, and the opposition was punished without sin”. The court ordered that the pictures of the accused and the plaintiff should not be broadcast on the media.

In the petition filed in the Lahore High Court, the government, PEMRA and the judge of the ATC court have been made parties, and the court has been asked to quash the order of PEMRA against reporting of the abuse case.

It is to be noted that PEMRA, while stopping the coverage of the motorway abuse case, had said that the victim is in great agony due to this process and it is not a good aspect. PEMRA says that, on the one hand, this lady was abused, and on the other hand, when the case is repeatedly discussed in the media, it is no less than a mental torture for the woman.
