Moving Towards the Uniform Education System
Classes 1 to 5 urdu-medium; Matriculation syllabus changed
Lahore: The journey towards a uniform system of education continues as the curriculum for Classes 1 to 5 is going to be Urdu-medium. The matriculation curriculum is also complete. According to reports the textbook board has changed the syllabus for many of the books for the current academic year. The decision has been taken to implement the uniform system of school education from the next academic year.
According to details the textbook board has changed the syllabus for many books this ongoing academic year, for classes 1 to 10. The School Education Department Punjab has decided to implement the uniform system from the 2021 academic year. The syllabus for English, Urdu and Mathematics for prep class has been changed. The English, Urdu, Mathematics and General Knowledge syllabus for Classes 1 and 2 has also been changed. The Mathematics and General Knowledge syllabus for Class 3 has changed. The Mathematics and Social Studies course for Class 4 has changed. English, Mathematics and Social Studies syllabus has changed for Class 5. Similarly Geography for Class 6, and Mathematics and Geography syllabuses for Class 8 has changed. The Computer Studies syllabus for Class 9 and Pakistan Studies syllabus for Class 10 has changed.
The General Secretary Pakistan Teachers Union Rana Liaquat Ali said that if the uniform system was to be implemented from the next academic year there was no need to change the syllabus now. The government should have an effective strategy for improving the quality of education.
It should be clear that the education department has ended the requirement for a school leaving certificate for promoted students joining a new school. Hundreds of thousands of students across Punjab can benefit from this decision.
