Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Muslim Ummah and “What First”? by Bilal Shaukat Azad

An ideology must be so infallible and flawless as a belief that it does not have to resort to debate and humiliation in order to understand and prove its legitimacy.

The ideology whose legitimacy is doubtful will be the subject of heated debates and objections will continue to be raised until its legitimacy is clarified by argument or the ideology itself is discredited by unwarranted humiliation.

The bi-national ideology and the ideology of Pakistan are a reflection of real and unique ideologies like faith. Therefore, those who challenge them have never been successful, while these ideologies are becoming more and more entrenched in the hearts and minds day by day.

It mentions that Islam was, is and will remain in these ideologies as a basis, not a necessity which shows that Islam gave the desire for a separate homeland, not the other way around, so it ends here, first of all.

The freedom movement of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal has in fact sprung from the womb of Islam so that Muslims become a force of the subcontinent and become the leader and protector of the Muslim Ummah with their Islamic identity. During his entire life and study of the movement it is nowhere that he read that the Muslims of the subcontinent would take an independent homeland and confine themselves within its borders. On the contrary, if we observe and study the last days of Quaid-e-Azam, he was concerned about Pakistan as a leader, but as a Muslim and the sovereign of a nascent Islamic country, he was concerned about the Muslim Ummah.

You may know that he was worried and anxious about the plight of Palestine while he had strong and hard thoughts for Israel. Suffice it to say that even in this tumultuous situation, he put the Muslim Ummah first not only because of the strong ties and ideology of Islam, but also because of the kindness and military support of Muslim countries. Here are some examples:

During the Indonesian National Revolution, Muhammad Ali Jinnah encouraged Muslim soldiers serving in the British Indian Army to join hands with Indonesia in their fight against the Dutch Imperial colonies in Indonesia.

As a result, 600 Muslim soldiers of the British Indian Army, at the risk of the colonial powers, allied themselves with Indonesia. Out of these 600 soldiers, 500 soldiers were martyred in the war. Survivors returned to Pakistan or lived in Indonesia.

In recognition of the support of Muslim soldiers from Pakistan, during Indonesia’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on August 17, 1995, Indonesia presented the Freedom War Awards to living Pakistani ex-servicemen and the founding father of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, received Indonesia’s highest award. Awarded “Adipura”, all this was done to set the best example of “Islam first” (Muslim Ummah).

Then let’s talk about Jinnah and Israel.

Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Grunion, sought to establish official diplomatic relations with Pakistan in May 1948, when he sent a telegram to Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Muhammad Ali Jinnah did nothing special and got no response. Jinnah, who was in fact suffering from serious health problems, fell ill in September 1948.

By 1949, the Israeli Foreign Ministry thought that it would then be able to open an Israeli embassy in Karachi, the capital of Pakistan, or at least open up trade.

On the other hand, the first contact between Pakistani diplomats in London and Israeli representatives affiliated with various Jewish organizations took place in the early 1950s.

The Pakistani government was asked to issue transit permits to India for a few hundred Jews who wanted to leave Afghanistan and emigrate to Israel, but the government cited the evacuation of Palestinian Palestinians in 1948 and their opposition to Israel. They refused to allow them to travel through Pakistan, after which the Afghan Jews left for Iran.

In 1952, Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Zafarullah Khan (Ahmadi) promoted tough policies against Israel (in light of the policies proposed during Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s last days). He advocated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Palestine in light of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.

Thus, Ayub Khan’s policy laid the foundation for Pakistan’s strategic relationship with the Arab states and convinced the world and the Pakistani Muslim people that “Islam first” (Muslim Ummah).

Similarly, the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, sought and sought to forge stronger ties with Islam in other neighboring and Muslim states so that the Muslim Ummah could go ahead and play a united, organized and militant role, and Muslims could regain their lost dignity. Recognize that the establishment of Pakistan was indeed an important and big chapter like other chapters of Nishat e Sania and at that time strong and powerful Pakistan is the next important and big chapter of Nishat e Sania which we have to complete.

Such a restoration is a blessed struggle for prosperity in which Pakistan has its own role to play which it has to play. From which it is clear that first of all it is not enough to say Pakistan but the current situation and time is not required. Of course, when Musharraf Sir gave this knot to the nations of the world, especially to the idolaters, it was needed, but it was not a centennial or doomsday ideology that we should stick to.

When Pakistan tried to acquire nuclear power, the slogan and the accusation repeated by both Muslims and non-Muslims was not that it was a “Pakistani bomb” but whenever it was said that it was an “Islamic bomb”. It is clear that even before the establishment of Pakistan, the priorities and goals of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal were fixed and clear.

So this debate loses its existence in the same way that ‘first Islam’ or ‘first Pakistan’ because Islam is the reason for the establishment of this country and Islam is the guarantor of its existence and Islam is the key to the honor and dignity of the people. If a weak ideology is put in the face of a divine and immortal belief like Islam that would question every decision and action from the founding of Pakistan to the present day whose background is Islam and the Ummah.
