Dozens of people have been killed in heavy snowfall in the mountainous region of Murree in Pakistan’s Punjab province, and rescue operations are under way.

According to the details, authorities say at least 21 tourists have been killed and rescue efforts are under way in the area. As per the death toll released by Rescue 1122, so far 21 people have lost their lives, including eight members of a family.

Baaghi TV has received a list of people who have lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

According to the list, 27-year-old Zahid, 31 year-old M. Ishfaq, 31-year-old Maroof, 27-year-old Sohail Khan, 22-year-old Asad, 21-year-old M. Bilal, 24-year-old Bilal Hussain, 35-year-old Mrs Shahzad and her eight-year-old and 11-year-old two children have lost their lives.

Moreover, 49-year-old ASI Islamabad Naveed Iqbal, his 43-year-old wife and his children were also among the dead.

It is pertinent to mention here that at least 21 people died after heavy snow trapped them in their vehicles as tens of thousands of visitors thronged hill town of Murree and other northern areas.

Meanwhile, the authorities concerned of Rawalpindi District administration, Rescue-1122 and Police have been ordered to accelerate the ongoing operation to rescue all the stranded tourists in Murree.

According to a district administration spokesman, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Gulzar Hussain Shah had reached Murree to monitor the activities to rescue the citizens. He informed that over 23,000 vehicles stranded due to heavy snowfall had been safely evacuated.

A Meteorological Department official told that there was no snowfall in the area at the moment but there was a forecast of more rain and snowfall in the next few hours which would continue till tomorrow. It may be recalled that the Met Department had already predicted heavy snowfall in Murree on January 5, 2022.
