Mushtaq set to become Pakistan’s spin bowling coach
Lahore (18th Nov, 2019): Pakistan’s former leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed looks set to become Pakistan’s spin bowling consultant.
He was kept in mind while doling out the advertisement for the position. It is astounding that a head coach was required to be a level-two coach whereas the spin bowling consultant needs a level-three coaching certificate.
Sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have revealed that the appointment of Mushtaq is being made because of the insistence of head coach-cum-chief selector Misbahul Haq.
According to details, the PCB recently issued an advertisement for the position of spin bowling consultant. The advertisement called for a level-three coaching certificate, along with at least five years of minimum experience with elite cricketers, national or international teams. The last date to apply for the position is November 19.
Sources claimed that the PCB, like always, had already finalised the appointment before issuing the advertisement. Mushtaq is the favourite for the position. He was the spin bowling coach for West Indies in the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup.
He had signed a contract to work for 150 days in a year in 2018. Mushtaq is currently associated with the Deccan Gladiators franchise in the T10 League. According to sources, Misbah expressed his desire to involve Mushtaq in his support staff. The interesting thing in this matter is that former spinner had earlier criticised the appointment of Misbah for the dual role of head coach and chief selector.
