PYONGYANG: North Korean state newspaper reported, on Saturday, the administration claimed nearly 800,000 of its citizens had volunteered to re-enlist or join the military in the fight against the United States.

According to the Rodong Sinmun newspaper, on Friday, almost 800,000 students and workers came forward with the desire to enlist in the military to counter the US (United States). Reports came after N. Korea launched its Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Thursday, in response to the ongoing military drills between the US and S. Korea.

It is worth mentioning that the North Korean administration fired the ICBM into the sea between the Korean peninsula and Japan, hours before the S. Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol, was scheduled to fly to Tokyo for a summit. The summit, on Thursday, was focused on discussions to counter the nuclear-armed North.

Earlier, a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution had prohibited N. Korean ballistic missiles so the recent ICBM launch had resulted in condemnation from South Korea, the US, and Japan.
