KARACHI — November 20, 2025: Veteran TV host Nadia Khan has strongly criticised ARY Digital’s prime-time drama Meri Zindagi Hai Tu, calling its storyline “toxic, substandard, and dangerous” for young audiences.

The drama, starring Hania Aamir and Bilal Abbas Khan together for the first time, initially drew strong viewership. Written by Radain Shah and directed by Mussadiq Malek, the serial follows Kamyar — a wealthy, spoiled young man — who becomes obsessed with Ayra, a medical student from a modest background. Their first meeting turns confrontational when Ayra slaps him, a moment after which he instantly “falls in love” and continues to pursue her.

On her review show Kya Drama Hai, Nadia Khan condemned the glorification of obsessive behaviour and love-bombing, warning that such portrayals normalize unhealthy relationships.

She noted that while the ratings remain solid, the drama has witnessed a drop in viewership since its premiere — something she attributes to audiences reacting negatively to the storyline.

Nadia said the drama romanticises behaviours that should not be celebrated: “The main lead is forcing himself on the girl, chasing her after repeated rejections, and it’s being presented as cute. This sets a dangerous example. People ask why boys force girls in real life — it’s because they take inspiration from this.”

Calling the plot “meaningless” despite having two powerhouse performers, she questioned the industry’s reliance on repetitive toxic tropes: “Have we run out of stories and concepts?”

Her critique has sparked renewed debate on social media about the representation of relationships in Pakistani dramas and the impact these narratives have on viewers, especially young audiences.
