A two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court on Monday will hear the appeal against the acquittal from the Nandipur reference. According to NAB, delay in Nandipur power project caused a loss of Rs 27.3 billion to the national exchequer.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has challenged the acquittal of PTI leader Dr Babar Awan and former law secretary Justice (retd) Justice Riaz Kayani in the Nandipur Power Reference in the Islamabad High Court.

Deputy Prosecutor General Muzaffar Khan Abbasi filed two appeals in which it was claimed that the accountability court reached its conclusion without reviewing the decision of the Supreme Court and the prosecution evidence.

It may be recalled that the Accountability Court had on June 25 acquitted Dr. Babar Awan in the Nandipur reference. In addition, the court had rejected the plea of acquittal against former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in the Nandipur reference. Former law minister and PTI leader Babar Awan, former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and the law and justice and water and power ministries were accused in the case.

Other accused in the reference include former law secretaries Justice (retd) Riaz Kayani and Masood Chishti, former water and power secretary Shahid Rafique and some officials from the law ministry, water and energy ministry.

What happens to the petition filed in the Islamabad High Court will be known only from the NAB documents, but it is certain that the petition filed against Babar Awan in the court has turned the tide on temporary happiness.
