Nov 11. 2021: A local court in Karachi’s Malir area has extended the police remand of Sindh Assembly member Jam Owais alias Gohram for another 14 days as police continue to investigate the murder of Nazim Jokhio, who was allegedly stopped by Gohram for trying to stop Arab poachers.

Nazim Jokhio was consequently threatened and killed after trying to halt Hobra bastard hunting in his village on the outskirts of Karachi. Jokhio recorded a video of the hunters and their vehicle, which went viral and allegedly infuriated Gohram. The Investigative Office (IO) told the court on Thursday that police had failed to find the registration record of the vehicle seen in the video and that was allegedly being used by foreigners.

The IO said the excise department did not have the record and now the police was seeking help from the customs officials. Jokhio’s family claims that Gohram and his accomplices beat Nazim Jokhio to death after he was called to his farmhouse to inquire about the video. However, sources in the Sindh Wildlife Department said that the Arab hunters had not yet reached Pakistan even though at least 14 permits had been issued to various dignitaries from the Gulf region. In light of these claims, the identity of the vehicle seen in the video and the occupants has become more important.

Gohram and other suspects were arrested after the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman intervened. Gohram was elected on a PPP ticket in the 2018 elections. The accused were produced in the court on Thursday under tight security. The court remanded him in police custody till November 16. Earlier, the court had extended his remand for three days when he was produced before the court on November 8. Nazim Jokhio’s tortured body was found November 3 at Jam Owais’ farmhouse in the Malir area of Karachi.

The victim’s brother accused the MPA and others of murder. As a result, a case was registered under section 302 [murder], 34 [common intent] of the Pakistan Penal Code.
