Need for Alternative Irrigation Methods to Curb Water Shortage: President

Dr. Arif Alvi says that alternative irrigation methods need to be adopted to tackle the growing water shortage in the country.

President Dr. Arif Alvi, while addressing the 13th Annual Award Distribution of Rice Exporters Association in Karachi, emphasized the need for research on the production of better quality seeds to increase the production of various crops, especially rice and cotton.

While speaking on the occasion, he said that this will enable local crops to become viable for global markets.

He further said that the government has also protected Pakistani basmati rice by making various efforts in the world market.

Dr. Arif Alvi also stressed the need to adopt alternative irrigation methods to tackle the growing water shortage in the country.

It should be noted that earlier Prime Minister Imran Khan, while addressing the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of Sialkot Khariyan Motorway, said that Sialkot Khariyan Motorway is an important project and its importance gets increasingly high due to large population. “We cannot repay loans unless the country’s income increases,” he said. “There is a need for industries in the country and without industries, the pace of development remains slow. We have to make it easier for small and medium industries. Funds are used for roads, schools, and other development works, but the country’s wealth cannot be increased without providing facilities to industries.”

Imran Khan said that the tourism sector in the country is big and important and motorways will further boost the tourism sector.
