Netherlands's Foreign Minister visits Islamabad

Sept 1, 2021: Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Ms Sigrid Kaag will visit Islamabad today to hold meeting with her Pakistani counterpart Foreign Minister Mr Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Minister of The Netherlands, Ms. Sigrid Kaag, will visit Pakistan today.

The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Netherlands will exchange views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan. The talks will also cover bilateral matters.

Both leaders will discuss longstanding bilateral and economic relations between Pakistan and the Netherlands, and the situation in Afghanistan. The Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs will also discuss what needs to be done in order to bring to the Netherlands the Dutch nationals and eligible Afghans who have not yet been evacuated from Afghanistan.

The Foreign Ministers are expected to talk about the recent developments, the scope for keeping borders and Kabul airport open, the importance of safe departure routes and possible support to that end from Pakistan. Future efforts relating to Afghanistan and the importance of security and stability, both in Afghanistan itself and in the wider region will also come under discussion.

In the backdrop of recent developments in Afghanistan, Pakistan and The Netherlands have been in close contact. The two Foreign Ministers had telephonic conversation on 21 August 2021. Prime Minister Imran Khan and Prime Minister Mark Rutte also exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan on 18 August 2021.

Pakistan has extended full facilitation to The Netherlands in its efforts for evacuation of diplomatic and other personnel from Afghanistan.

Pakistan and The Netherlands enjoy close and cordial relations. The Netherlands is one of the largest trading partners of Pakistan in the European Union. A number of Dutch companies have been investing in Pakistan.

​The visit of Foreign Minister Kaag will add to the current momentum of high-level exchanges and help further strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.
