Noor Mukaddam murder sparks outrage over femicides | Baaghi TV

Following initial reports of the brutal rape and beheading of Noor Mukaddam, the 27-year-old daughter of former Envoy, Mr. Shuakat Mukaddam, on 20th July 2021, the female community is rallying in support of the victim and her family. 

According to reports of Baaghi TV, the vivacious young woman was murdered in cold blood by Zahir Jaffer, son of Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Zakir, of the Jaffer Group of Companies. The incident left the Pakistani community, especially women and mothers, shocked and in chaos. 

Initial investigation by the police led to a confessional by the 30-year-old Jaffer who said, “When she said no to marrying me, I locked her in a room and told the guard to not let anyone leave or enter.” Post-murder, Zahir Jaffer’s family tried to handle things via Therapy Works hired to get rid of Mukaddam’s body. However, they put on the public face of support for the deceased’s family.

Furthermore, based on the police investigation, it was reported that while Noor was being held hostage by Jaffer, he had been in contact with his parents multiple times who took the route of declaring Zahir Jaffer as ‘unstable’ nonetheless, multiple experts in the field denied the claims and declared him fit for trial. 

Nearly two months into the investigation, the murder trial has been transferred to a special court for speedy proceedings. In lieu of this, support has been pouring in for the Mukaddam family with Pakistani citizens (even those settled abroad) have been sharing messages in support, demanding swift justice for Noor Mukaddam.

Some such messages have been shared with Baaghi TV by women and men courageous enough to raise their voices against such elitist injustice, and against the delayed system of justice.

In the first video, the young woman stresses that the people of influence are actively working to manipulate the case proceedings. She goes on to say that the victim’s family are suffering, hoping for justice from the authorities, however, the perpetrators namely the Jaffer’s are being provided with the best facilities despite such a heinous crime. She goes on to appeal to the Prime Minister for a “speedy trial” for Noor who was killed in a barbaric manner.

The second video, also by a woman talks about the protection of women. She starts by saying that she is from Islamabad and demands justice for Noor. She says that she “appeals to Prime Minister Khan, President Dr. Alvi, COAS General Qamar Bajwa, and all to save ladies, and offer them protection”. She adds that if we don’t ensure justice for Noor, justice for Asad and Sundus in Usman Mirza case then we will never get justice.

She goes on to add that we are a shameless nation that gives millions and billions of followers to celebrities and yet they don’t speak up against injustice. She adds that it is unfortunate that no one is speaking up in favour of Noor Mukaddam.

In the third video, Shani Rehman from Sydney, Australia says that she is regretfully making the video to raise her voice as an overseas Pakistani to highlight the Noor Mukaddam case. She hopes that the govt ensure a speedy trial and severely punish all the perpetrators. directly or indirectly, linked with the murder.  

Rehman goes on to say that the overseas Pakistani community voted for the ruling PTI government especially PM Khan with high expectations for change, given that the political party is named Tehreel-i-Insaaf (PTI) and would ensure justice.

In the fourth video, Hafeez Siddique a Qatari resident of Pakistani origin stresses that we need to speak up against injustice on a humanitarian level. Siddique says that since I have heard of the murder of Noor, the innocent girl, I have not been able to sleep. I cannot comprehend that we have monsters such as Zahir Jaffer roaming around in Pakistan. 

Appealing to the PM, Siddique said all we want is justice for Noor because if our PM aspires to make Pakistan a ‘Riyasat-e-Madinah’ and talks about the Prophet (S.A.W.) then he will have to work for it because talking about it will only get us so far, we need action now. We demand a speedy trial to ensure justice for Noor. 

Siddique concluded the video by saying that we want justice for Noor because she is like a sister to us all, we want justice for our sister.

In the fifth video, a Pakistani woman living in Greece says that this “gruesome crime has just created shockwaves across the country and because I am from Islamabad it really shocked us. We are following the case and want to ensure that justice is done”. She goes on to say that “I am addressing my Prime Minister, Imran Khan, and our Chief Justice, Justice Gulzar to ensure that the trial is done in a speedy and swift way, and in the most, just way”. 

The woman who introduced herself as Wajeeha continued to add, “I cannot believe Mr. Mukaddam who has endured so much of pain and trauma is running helter-skelter in these civil courts and high courts for challenging the bail”. 

Furthermore, she said, “What sort of system are we living in? What sort of country are we living in? I think its a turning point to make Riyasat-e-Madinah. We need to ensure that we have more trust and faith in our judicial system.” 

It is pertinent to note that the family and friends of Noor Mukaddam organized a peaceful protest, on the 14th of September, in their fight for justice. Mr. Shuakat Mukaddam father of Noor Mukaddam, as well as her siblings actively participated in the protest. According to reports, her brother and sister reiterated their demand for swift justice while speaking to media personnel outside the Islamabad High Court.  

A Twitter trend was also started on the 13th of September, 2021 to demand justice for Noor Mukaddam with the hashtag: #درندے_جعفر_کو_سزا_دو (Punish Zahir Jaffer). 

In the sixth video, Shabnam Seher from Rawalpindi says, “Khan sahib all Pakistanis have tied their hopes with you. Such a gruesome murder took place in your neighborhood, Islamabad on which you issued just one statement followed by total silence. The public is looking to you if you have created Naya Pakistan then ensure that it is Naya Pakistan by allowing Noor Mukaddam the justice she deserves”.

Seher added, “every Pakistani is expecting that Noor gets the justice she deserves”.

In the seventh video, Shahid Yaqoob said, “I am speaking in regards to the Noor Mukaddam case, and I hope that Zahir Jaffer, his parents, and all accomplices should be dealt with severely.”

He added, “If we let these beasts go, then there are others, more powerful in Islamabad, who will continue to spread fear. If action is taken against them then in shaa Allah these people who function as dons and mafias will be dealt with.”

Yaqoob argued that Khawaja Harris should be ashamed, if it was his daughter instead of Noor Mukaddam, then his tune would have been completely different.

In the eighth video, Zareen Shahid from Lahore said, “Respected PM Khan please ensure that Noor Mukaddam gets the justice she deserves. We request that the beast is beheaded the same way he tortured the nation’s daughter. We hope that you take notice of our demand because if today, Noor does not get justice then no daughter will get justice in the future.”

In the ninth video, Eman from Jeddah said, “It is said that every drop comes together to make an ocean, so today I want to play my part as a drop and use my voice to demand justice for Noor. We want justice for Noor, what is the use of a country, of our humanity that we cannot guarantee justice for a woman? Where is our humanity? We want justice for Noor. It is our right and we will take it.”

Eman added that the public will not back down in the demand for justice.
