Notable Celebrities Summoned by FIA for ‘Derogatory Remarks’ Against Ali Zafar
Lahore (20th Aug, 2019): Prominent Pakistani celebrities including Iffat Omer, Ali Gul Pir and others have reportedly been summoned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in connection to singer Ali Zafar, on the basis of allegedly making ‘derogatory remarks’ about Zafar.
According to reports, the FIA has issued notices to summon Iffat Omer, Ali Gul Pir and other renowned celebrities for making ‘derogatory remarks’ about singer, song-writer Ali Zafar.
Sources have confirmed that the FIA proceedings are in connection to Ali Zafar’s ongoing defamation case against Meesha Shafi who had accused Zafar of sexual harassment the previous year. As already highlighted by Baaghi TV, Ali Zafar had filed a formal application to the FIA’s cyber crime division stating that he was being maligned by means of multimedia on various social media sites, such as Twitter. Moreover, Ali had termed it a conspiracy that was ‘pre-planned’ to bring him down before the release of his film Teefa In Trouble, in which he had starred alongside Maya Ali.
It has been further been confirmed by The Express Tribune that Maham Javed, Fareeha Ayub and Mohsin Syed are also among those who have been summoned by the FIA. Reportedly, Iffat Rahim, model and actor, has also been summoned and has apparently recorded her statement while others have yet to do so.
While addressing the press personnel after last month’s hearing, Ali Zafar, argued that a pure cause such as the #MeToo campaign wrongly used “is a battle… for both men and women”. He added that based on the findings discovered it was unearthed that these prominent personalities were all connected to Meesha Shafi’s lawyer, Nighat Dad in one way or the other, and that he “was [nothing but] a pawn in the plan to launch the #MeToo movement in Pakistan”.
