In its first report of its kind, a report on the impact on human rights during the lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir described the situation as “extremely serious” and called for the withdrawal of all measures taken since August 5 last year.
According to the report, during the last 11 months, the use of force has been given priority over public, civil and human security, which has led to gross human rights violations.

According to the South Asian Wire, the report states that the public was deprived of bail and the right to a speedy trial. At the same time, strict laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Prevention of Illegal Activities Act (UAPA) were used to suppress freedom of expression.
The Forum for Human Rights in Jammu and Kashmir has demanded the immediate abolition of the PSA and the release of the remaining political leaders. Among them are PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The Jammu and Kashmir Human Rights Forum says that after removing the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, China has become the third party in the Kashmir dispute.
The lockdown in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir for the past one year has cost the local economy about Rs 40,000 crore. The revelations were made by The Forum for Human Rights in Jammu and Kashmir in its report titled ‘Jammu and Kashmir: The Impact of Lock Downs on Human Rights from August 2019 to July 2020. The forum is chaired by 21 prominent Indian citizens Former Supreme Court of India Judge Justice Madan B. Lokar and former female negotiator for Jammu and Kashmir Professor Radha Kumar.
