The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir met on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, to review the political, security and human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting, chaired by OIC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Yousef M. Al-Dobeay, was attended by the Contact Group member states — Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Niger and Azerbaijan — along with a delegation of the true representatives of the Kashmiri people.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi, thanked the OIC and its member states for their consistent support to the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He condemned India’s attempts to consolidate its illegal occupation through draconian laws, repression, and demographic engineering. He highlighted that human rights abuses and arbitrary detentions in the occupied territory had intensified since August 2019. Fatemi stressed that sustainable peace in South Asia hinges on the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through dialogue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
He urged the OIC to press India to end its state repression, release political prisoners, repeal black laws, and allow the Kashmiri people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination.
