Sept 2, 2021: Habib Construction Company has sought additional compensation of Rs 1.98 billion for delay in Orange Line train project in Lahore High Court.

Justice Abid Hussain issued a written verdict on the LDA appeal, stating that the Orange Line train had been blocked for 22 months at 11 historic sites due to a stay order of the Lahore High Court. Habib Construction Services had demanded more than Rs 1.98 billion in damages.

The contractor said no agreement was violated in the construction of the Orange Line train, the project was stopped due to being in the courts. When there is no dispute, the decision to settle the matter through arbitration is not in accordance with the law.

The court ruled that the dispute between the parties involved in the Orange line project was clear from the record. It is the job of the mediator to see that the demand for extra money from Habib Construction is in accordance with the law. Controversy cannot be ruled out simply by disregarding the LDA.

The court upheld the civil court’s decision and dismissed the LDA’s appeal.
