Zahir Jaffer, main accused in the Noor Muqaddam murder case, thrown out of court

Sept 2, 2021: The gardener of Zahir Jaffer, the main accused in the murder of Noor Muqaddam, has approached the District and Sessions Court for bail.

The court issued notices to the parties and sought reply till tomorrow.

Earlier, police had arrested the gardener, identified as Jan Muhammad, for his alleged involvement in the murder of 27-year-old Noor Muqaddam in the federal capital on July 20.

Jan worked as a gardener at the house of prime suspect Zahir Jaffer and fled to his village in Mansehra after the murder.

He was presented in the court of Judge Shahzad Khan and the deputy magistrate sent him to jail on judicial remand. The suspect will be presented in court again on August 28.

Investigation officer Abdul Sattar says CCTV footage obtained from Zahir’s residence shows the gatekeeper closed the gate when Noor jumped from the balcony and tried to flee the house.

Her body was brought to the hospital at around 12:10am on the day of the incident but the post-mortem examination was done the next morning at around 9am, says Abdul Sattar. He said, according to the post-mortem report, the murder took place at around 7pm on July 20.

Earlier in the Noor Muqaddam murder case, the owner of the therapy center also reached the court with a request to file a case against the main accused Zahir Jaffer.

Shehzad Qureshi, counsel for the petitioner, argued that Kohsar police had not heard our case from day one and that the therapy works employees were only present at the scene of the crime because they received a phone call from the father of accuses, Zakir Jaffer who is also currently in Adiala Jail.

It is worth mentioning that the accuses, Zahir Jaffer has established contact with the US consulate. While the consulate had promised to not interfere in the case proceedings, it was brought to light that they had been actively trying to get in touch with Zahir. They got permission from the Interior Ministry, and on Tuesday 31st August, Zahir Jaffer had a 25-minute conversation with them on the phone.

The last hearing in the sessions court was held on 30th August as the earlier stated judicial remand of Zahir Jaffer expired. In the session proceeding, the court had further extended the judicial remand of the accused. It will now expire on September 6th.
