LAHORE: Wasim, brother of Qandeel Baloch and the main accused in the Qandeel Baloch murder case, has reportedly been acquitted.
In the Lahore High Court (LHC) Multan Bench, concerning the model Qandeel Baloch’s murder case, the mother of the main accused submitted her consent in court. After which the court ordered to acquit the main accused, brother, Wasim. The accused had been sentenced to life imprisonment by Multan Model Court on September 27, 2019, while four accused including Mufti Abdul Qawi were acquitted on the basis of lack of evidence.

Counsel for the petitioner told the court that the Sessions Court had ignored the consent form. The main accused and the victim’s father has reportedly died. Witnesses in the case also recanted their statements in the trial court. The accused has served jail time over charges of strangling and killing his sister, model Qandeel Baloch, in the name of honor. Accused Wasim had filed an appeal in the court seeking to overrule the sentence. Five accused including two brothers of the victim have been acquitted. Prominent religious scholar Mufti Abdul Qawi was among those acquitted.

Model Qandeel Baloch’s father, Mohammad Azeem Baloch, had filed a murder case against his son Mohammad Waseem and his accomplices Haq Nawaz, Mohammad Zafar, and their driver Abdul Basit, at the time. The renowned model and rising showbiz personality Qandeel Baloch was allegedly murdered in her home in Multan in the name of honor. According to media reports at the time, Qandeel Baloch had come to visit her parents when, while sleeping at night, her brother Wasim strangled her and fled the village. The police had arrested the accused in a raid.
