Oscar nominations revealed for the year 2022
On Tuesday, actor Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross revealed the Oscar nominations (2022) in all 23 Academy Award categories in a live presentation. Netflix’s ‘The Power of Dog’ dominates the 2022 Academy Award nominations, earning 12 nominations.
Close behind was ‘Dune’ with 10 nominations. This was followed by ‘Belfast’ and ‘West Side Story’ with seven nominations each while ‘King Richard’ bagged six nominations. ‘The Power of Dog’, ‘Dune’, ‘Belfast’ and ‘West Side Story’ have been nominated for the prestigious best picture category, which has 10 possible winners this year.
The list also includes Adam McKay’s ‘Don’t Look Up’, ‘Licorice Pizza’, ‘CODA’, ‘Nightmare Alley’ and the Japanese film ‘Drive My Car’.
‘Joker’ leads the pack at Bafta awards
‘The Power of Dog’s’ Jane Campion, a nominee for 1993’s ‘The Piano’, became the first woman ever to be nominated twice for best director. Last year, in 2021, Chloe Zhao became just the second woman to ever win the award. Campion’s director of photography, Ari Wegner, also became the second woman ever nominated for best cinematography. The first woman to do so was Rachel Morrison for ‘Mudbound’ (2018).
The nominees for actors in a leading role include Javier Bardem for ‘Being the Ricardos’, Benedict Cumberbatch for ‘The Power of Dog’, Andrew Garfield for ‘Tick, Tick…BOOM!’, Will Smith for ‘King Richard’ and Denzel Washington for ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’.

Oscar Nominees for actress in a leading role include Jessica Chastain for ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’, Olivia Colman for ‘The Lost Daughter’, Penelope Cruz for ‘Parallel Mothers’, Nicole Kidman for ‘Being the Ricardos’ and Kristen Stewart for ‘Spencer’.
The 94th edition of Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 27th. The ceremony returns to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will have a host at the helm for the first time in 2018.
