The annual awards ceremony famously known as the Oscars is expected to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2021 Academy Awards has now been suggested to be postponed by four months i.e. the ceremony could be held as late as May or June next year.

Oscars organisers have reportedly considered postponing 93rd Academy Awards, which was planned to be held on February 28, as lack of new releases during coronavirus crisis threatened the 2021 awards season.

The biggest event of the entertainment industry is under threat due to the lack of new films amid the COVID-19 outbreak, which has seen studios delay releases and shut down production on new projects.

The report comes after the Academy drew up provisional plans last month to help studio bosses, including allowing films that have skipped theatrical release and gone straight to streaming sites to still qualify for the Oscars nominations.

Numerous films have already had their release dates pushed back this year, as cinemas across the world remain closed.

The latest James Bond movie No Time To Die was one of the first blockbusters to be delayed, and it’s release date was pushed from April until November.

Noteworthy, the Oscars have only been postponed three times since its establishment.
