According to the reports, Quetta police have detained more than 60 students protesting on online classes due to the closure of educational institutions because of the pandemic.

The students were on their way to protest in front of the Balochistan Assembly when police detained them at GPO Chowk and transferred them to the police station.

Protesting students say the internet is not available in many parts of Balochistan, making it impossible for thousands of students to take online classes.

Students demand that the provision of internet facilities be ensured before starting online classes and if this is not possible then the program of online classes should be abandoned and educational institutions should be opened under SOPs.

Echoes of the students’ arrest were also heard in the Balochistan Assembly session. Opposition member Nasrullah Zari condemned the arrest of the students. However, Food Minister Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran said the detained students would be released.
