Pair of Japanese Watermelons Auctioned for nearly 2 lac

Tokyo: A pair of Japanese watermelons has been auctioned off for the equivalent of Rs 184,000. According to reports, interesting news regarding fruit often comes from Japan. Nowadays Japanese watermelons have a unique importance and a pair of yellow watermelons has gotten auctioned for $1114.

Last year a watermelon sold for 5 million Japanese Yens which is equivalent to US$46,000. At Yūbari in the island of Hokkaido, a pair of watermelons sold for 120,000 Japanese Yen. Last year a similar fruit sold for forty times this much.

The organisers of the auction market were criticised by some customers for not including enough of the moneyed class in the auction due to which large amounts were not fetched.
