ISLAMABAD (Baaghi TV) — November 5, 2025: The recent round of high-level talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Istanbul has ended without a breakthrough, as both sides failed to reach an agreement on key security concerns.

Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarrar confirmed the deadlock, stating that while Pakistan appreciates the mediation efforts of Turkey and Qatar, the discussions could not produce tangible progress due to differences over counterterrorism commitments.

The minister emphasized that Pakistan’s position remains firm and principled — that the responsibility for preventing and controlling terrorism emanating from Afghan soil lies squarely with the Afghan authorities.

“Pakistan stands by its consistent stance that it is Afghanistan’s obligation under international law and bilateral agreements to prevent the use of its territory for cross-border terrorism,” Atta Tarrar said.

He added that the Afghan Taliban has so far failed to honor several international, regional, and bilateral commitments, including those made under the Doha Peace Agreement of 2021: “Pakistan has extended every possible opportunity for constructive dialogue, but the Afghan side must fulfill its commitments to regional peace and stability,” the minister stated.

Reiterating Islamabad’s goodwill toward the Afghan people, the minister said Pakistan continues to support peace, stability, and prosperity in Afghanistan. However, he clarified that Pakistan will not back any steps taken by the Taliban government that undermine the interests of the Afghan people or their neighboring countries, “Our objective is a peaceful and stable Afghanistan, but Pakistan will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its citizens and sovereignty,” Atta Tadar concluded.

The Istanbul round follows previous negotiations in Doha, which also ended inconclusively amid growing regional concern over cross-border militancy and the security situation along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border.
