Pakistan Army rescue foreign climbers stranded at Concordia and Shigar points
The Pakistan Army successfully rescued foreign mountaineers who were stranded at Concordia and Shigar points near the K2 base camp in Gilgit Baltistan.
On August 17, 2023, a team of climbers, including one Polish and four British climbers along with a local guide, found themselves stranded at these locations.
The British climbers—George Hurst, David Cope, Stephen Ryan, and Darren Corby—were rescued from Concordia, while the Polish climber, Adam, and the local guide, Muhammad Iqbal, were rescued from Shigar, situated at an altitude of approximately 17,000 feet.
The Pakistan Army promptly launched a rescue operation using helicopters from the Pakistan Army Aviation Corps upon receiving the distress call. Despite critical conditions and severe breathing problems due to the high altitude, all the climbers were successfully rescued and provided with essential medical assistance by the Pakistan Army rescue team.
The climbers expressed their gratitude to the Pakistan Army for their swift and effective efforts in rescuing them.
