Pakistan can partner with US in peace, not conflict: PM Imran

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has made it clear once again that Pakistan will no longer be a partner of the United States (US) in any conflict.

According to the details, Imran Khan said that Pakistan no longer wants any ‘strategic depth’ in Afghanistan and has repeatedly made it clear to the world that it wants peace in the region.

Addressing the National Assembly on Wednesday, Imran Khan said that Pakistan had in the past decided to become a frontline state in the US war on terror. As a Pakistani, this was the time when he felt most humiliated.

He said that from the beginning he was of the view that Pakistan has nothing to do with this war. Al Qaeda is in Afghanistan. Similarly, the Taliban were in Afghanistan but not in Pakistan. Why did Pakistan need to take part in the US war? The nation must learn from that time. Imran Khan said that Pakistan had acted foolishly by joining the US war.

He said that he had also attended the meetings held at that time. According to him in these meetings, it was said that if Pakistan did not become part of the US war, it could be harmed. Therefore, Pakistan should have helped the United States at that time.

Referring to the operations taking place across the country, he further said that our country had sacrificed 70,000 lives by participating in someone else’s war.

Referring to the financial losses caused by the war, he said that Pakistan’s economy had lost more than $150 billion. At that time no cricket team came to this country, so how could any investor come as it was considered the most dangerous region in the world.

He said that Pakistan captured its people and handed them over to the United States who were taken to Guantanamo Bay. General Pervez Musharraf also acknowledged this in his book.

Imran Khan also said that some al-Qaeda members had come from Afghanistan to Pakistan’s tribal areas. The border was open so they came to the tribal areas. Pakistan was asked to send an army behind a few hundred people and sent troops behind a few hundred militants. This was the darkest time in the history of the country.

He added that the US was an ally and used to carry out drone strikes in the country. In his words, Pakistanis were killed in these attacks while revenge was taken from the Pakistani army.

Referring to the operation in Abbottabad in May 2011, Imran Khan said that when the operation against Osama bin Laden took place in Abbottabad after that, Pakistanis abroad faced humiliation. The US did not trust our people to inform them that they would take such action.

Referring to US-Pakistan relations during the war, he said that Pakistan had suffered so much but the United States did not appreciate or recognize it. There is no country in the world that has made so many sacrifices for another country. On the contrary, he accused Pakistan of playing a double game in Afghanistan. If America was not winning the war in Afghanistan, then it was put on Pakistan.

Referring to recent events, the Prime Minister said that our country and the US now have the same goal in Afghanistan. They have come to the conclusion after a long delay that there is no military solution to the Afghan problem. If they had come to this solution first, there would not have been so much bloodshed.

Imran Khan said that foreign intervention in Afghanistan has never been successful. Whether it was during the British rule or when Russia intervened.

Referring to the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan this year, he said that when the United States announced the date of withdrawal from Afghanistan, it asked Pakistan to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table. What did Pakistan have to convince the Taliban to negotiate? If only their families were living in Pakistan, would Pakistan arrest their families and put them in jails? Pakistan could only tell them that if the Taliban prolonged the war, it would be a civil war.
